A CELEBRATION, 175 years in the making, has been achieved at Camden Cricket Club, with the inaugural all-girls team crowned premiers.
The under 10 team emerged victorious after a five month journey, amassing more than 2500 runs and 110 wickets across 18 games.
Coach Glen Tipping said it’s a special moment for cricket in the region. “We are obviously very proud,” he said. “It is nice to have an all-girls team, let alone undefeated premiers,” he said.
“The secret was the team dynamic more than anything. They trained hard, played hard and enjoyed the spoils. “The girls can compete with the boys as much as the other way around.”
Achieving a 45 run victory in last weekends grand final, fellow coach Roger Cubitt said he hoped this will launch the profile of female cricket in the region. “Hopefully this is a stepping stone for more girls to get involved in cricket,” he said.
“There are a lot of pathways to get involved and to progress through to the WBBL. Hopefully our girls can go that far.”
